A COMPLETE COUNT BRINGS HELP TO DECATUR and MACON COUNTY?

Over $1 Billion in Federal funds comes to individuals, families, businesses, social service agencies, farms, etc., in Macon County EVERY SINGLE YEAR. This amount is dependent on the population of Macon County.

  • Census data was used to create the Weed n Seed Area, paid for the cameras, etc., which reduced crime,
  • Community Development Block Grant funds fix roofs, provide new windows and furnaces.
  • Assistance paying for water and sewer lines and other public improvements,
  • Providing the money to help pay for handicapped access at street intersections,
  • Pays part of the cost for street improvements like repairs to the Garfield Avenue bridge,
  • Senior citizen services, health care assistance, free H1N1 vaccinations,
  • First time home buyers, housing rehabilitation programs, rental assistance, etc...

Where to be Counted? Where do you live and sleep most of the time?

  • It is very important that every person be counted and counted where they usually live
  • Where a person lives MOST OF THE TIME is the important part. It does not matter where someone registers to vote, has their tax bill sent or titles their car. Completing the census questionnaire at a different location has no effect on car insurance or voter registration. People who live in one state but spend the winter in another state, college students, military personnel, etc. should be counted at the residence where they live most of the year.
  • The census forms will be mailed out in March 2010. The Post Office will not forward them. The forms that are mailed to a residence are coded specifically to that address.

The 2010 Census

  • It’s easy.
  • It’s confidential.
  • It’s safe.
  • It’s required.
  • IF the Questionnaire isn’t completed, an identified Census worker WILL come to your home to talk with you and help you complete the form.

A COMPLETE COUNT BRINGS US A BIGGER VOICE IN GOVERNMENT?

  • Affects our representation and access to members of Congress,
  • Defines our Federal, State and local representative districts,
  • Used to make planning decisions and funding which helps pay for sewer and water projects, education, housing, job training, food, neighborhood redevelopment, transportation improvements, public health, senior citizen assistance and much, much more.
