Decatur Urbanized Area Transportation Study (DUATS)

DUATS Documents

The Decatur Urbanized Area Transportation Study (DUATS) serves as the Planning Entity for the Decatur Urbanized Area. DUATS acts as the regional transportation-planning agency that fulfills federal and state requirements for transportation planning in urban areas with more than 50,000 persons.

DUATS consists of three committees.

The Policy Committee that is served by policy makers from:

  • City of Decatur
  • Macon County
  • Village of Forsyth
  • Village of Mt. Zion
  • Illinois Department of Transportation

The Technical Committee consists of transportation professionals from the following who recommend action to the Policy Committee:

  • City of Decatur
  • Macon County
  • Decatur Public Transit System
  • Decatur Park District
  • Village of Forsyth
  • Village of Mt. Zion
  • Illinois Department of Transportation

The Advisory Committee acts in an advisory role on policy and requirement issues. The committee consists of:

  • Illinois Department of Transportation
  • Federal Transit Administration
  • Federal Highway Administration

The Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) is a document that projects the needs, issues, and priorities for the Decatur Urbanized Area over at least a twenty-year time period. SAFETEA-LU mandates that the LRTP be updated every five years. Before a transportation project can receive federal funding, it must be consistent with the LRTP and included in the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).
