FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Decatur Now on Facebook
DECATUR - Decatur residents can now look to the city’s new Facebook page for information about city government.
Residents can simply join Facebook (it’s free at www.facebook.com) or log in if they are already members and search for City of Decatur. Once you become a fan you will receive regular informational updates and can talk with city staff.
The new Facebook page joins a growing list of city communications vehicles being implemented to better interact with and inform Decatur residents. That list includes:
- The City’s Web Page at www.decaturil.gov - New web stories are added here regularly in addition to public documents and other information about city programs and new videos under the ACCESSDecatur button (the server is currently down but should be up shortly). Here, residents can also sign up to receive regular news updates by clicking the “Stay Connected” button at the top of the page. People can also submit questions by clicking the “Public Information” button and then “Send us your questions or comments.”
- ACCESSDecatur (Cable TV Channel 18) – This channel now broadcasts city information 24 hours per day, everything from videos about city information and upcoming court cases to road closures and information about the latest parking violators. We have also hosted a live press conference here and plans are to do more in the future.
- TWITTER - Decatur residents and people worldwide for that matter can now stay informed about happenings with Decatur city government by signing up to follow us on Twitter, the free social networking site allowing users to send and receive short bursts of information via the web, cell phones and other technology. The city’s information can be accessed at twitter.com/accessdecatur.
- www.youtube.com/accessdecatur - The city recently established its own YouTube channel, regularly posting short informational videos.
