FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Most Garbage Haulers Alter Collection Schedule for Holidays, Will Collect Christmas Trees

DECATUR – Most garbage haulers will be making their normal Friday collections on Saturday during the next two weeks due to the holidays.

Veolia, Waste Management, IV Container, Suburban, Murrell and Mixell are all planning Saturday collections while Meador Disposal and R&H Disposal will collect on Thursday. CC disposal will run its regular routes on Christmas Day. Residents should contact their individual hauler if they are not listed here.

In addition, local garbage haulers will dispose of live Christmas trees on a resident’s regular yard waste collection day if contacted at least 24 hours in advance. The live trees should be placed wherever haulers normally collect yard waste and all decorations should be removed prior to disposal. Artificial trees or trees that contain tinsel, garland, plastic wrap or other decorations will be collected on regularly scheduled garbage collection days and will count as one of the five bulk items haulers collect from individuals each year.

Residents can also donate trees to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources which will place the trees in Lake Shelbyville to enhance fisheries. All decorations must be removed and trees can be dropped off at Howy’s Lakeside five miles south of Sullivan on Highway 32 (728-2810).

For more information contact your individual hauler or Billy Tyus at 424-2753.
