HASC OLD HOUSE WORKSHOP SET

DECATUR - Residents can learn the ins and outs of home repair and historic preservation during the 12th Annual Old House Workshop, to be held Saturday, March 7 from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the Decatur Area Arts Council, 125 N. Water St.

The theme for this year’s Old House workshop is “Go Green Preserve Decatur” and the event’s keynote speaker will be Miriam Johnson from the popular PBS home improvement TV show “Hometime” who will talk about the show and other trends and issues related to home improvement projects during a lunch discussion. Now in its 21st season, “Hometime” helps homeowners achieve professional home improvement results, tackling everything from landscaping, painting and kitchen facelifts to new construction projects. Other presenters include:

• Mike Jackson, Illinois Historic Preservation Agency – “Reduce+Reuse =Preservation” • Paul Kapp, U of I Historic Preservation Architect – “Adventures with Recycled Building Materials • Stephanie Ashe, the City of Decatur’s Historic Preservation Planner — “So you bought a historic house, now what?” • Olmstead Brothers, Re-Bath of Illinois, Harner Interiors, Huff Lumber – Product guides and Suppliers.

Event registration is $25 which includes all workshops, a continental breakfast and lunch with Miriam Johnson. Applications are available in the City of Decatur’s Economic and Urban Development department on the third floor of the Decatur Civic Center or can be downloaded on the city’s web site at http://www.decaturil.gov. Applications must be submitted by Feb. 20 with checks made payable to HASC. Applications with registration payment should be mailed to HASC, City of Decatur, One Gary K. Anderson Plaza, Decatur, IL 62523.
