City Council Meeting Agenda
DECATUR - The Decatur City Council on Monday began the process of directing millions of dollars in federal stimulus funding towards important projects in Decatur while the mayor and a trio of council members with a combined 38 years of city government service attended a final meeting before their terms end April 30.
The council voted 7-0 in favor of funding arrangements to kick-off a pair of capital projects and also voted unanimously to formally request the draw of about $1.7 million in previously allocated stimulus funds for a slate of Decatur public transit projects. The council agreed with a proposal to use about $720,000 in stimulus funding and $180,000 in motor fuel tax funds to pay for repairs to the Garfield Avenue Bridge and to move forward with design services for improvements to the South Shores Bridge over the Sand Creek arm of Lake Decatur. The South Shores bridge repairs could also be funded through American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus) funding.
In other news, council members Betsy Stockard, Dan Caulkins, Shad Edwards and Mayor Michael Carrigan participated in a final council meeting before the fiscal year and their terms end April 30. Each member of council has served for the following number of years:
- Councilwoman Stockard — 12 years
- Councilman Edwards — 8 years
- Councilman Caulkins — 4 years
- Mayor Michael Carrigan — 14 years as either a councilman or Mayor.
