Burning of Waste and Recreational Fires

Burning Leaves On April 26, 1999 and becoming effective October 1, 2000, the Decatur City Council adopted the following amendment to the Decatur City Ordinance.

CHAPTER 48
Section 12
BURNING OF WASTE

No person shall cause or allow the burning of garbage, landscape waste or other waste within the corporate limits of the City of Decatur, except for fires set by a public official in the performance of the official’s duties and fires used for recreational purposes such as campfires.

Fuel for recreational fires shall consist only of seasoned dry firewood. No recreational fire shall be used for waste disposal purposes or be permitted to become a nuisance by reason of the emission of smoke, fumes, fly ash, dust or soot.
