The Decatur Fire Department has a total of seven fire stations located throughout the city. There are seven engine companies, two truck companies, a command vehicle, two hazmat response vehicles and two boats. The reserve fleet consists of reserve two engines, and a ladder truck. The seven stations are staffed by 121 firefighters. In 2008 the fire department responded to 9,080 emergency incidents in addition to conducting fire safety inspections, presenting fire and life safety educational programs, and carrying out all the tasks needed to maintain a state of readiness.
