Street Crimes - Narcotics Investigations Bureau
The Street Crimes Narcotics Bureau is comprised of 2 Detective Sergeants and 12 Detectives. Operational shifts vary in time each day due to unique nature of investigations focused on by this unit. One of the Detectives assigned to the Street Crimes Narcotics Bureau works on a daily basis with the Federal Bureau of Investigations Joint Terrorism Task Force, working side by side with full time FBI Agents and maintains FBI credentials, clearance, and authority. This particular Detective works on sensitive investigations regarding the recruitment and financial funding of international terrorism. One Detective in the SCNB works strictly on gang investigations and gang intelligence information. The Decatur Police Department has made a significant impact over the years on many local street gangs sending several gang leaders to Federal prison with life sentences. The Detectives assigned to the SCNB annually work several hundred short term and long term criminal narcotics investigations and seize thousands of grams of cannabis, powder cocaine, crack cocaine as well as methamphetamine, heroin, LSD, pseudoephedrine, ecstasy, and illegal mushrooms. The SCNB conducts hundreds of search warrants seizing numerous illegal weapons, vehicles, and hundreds of thousands of dollars of U.S. currency obtained by the illegal distribution and possession of narcotics.
The Detectives of the Street Crimes Narcotics Bureau also conducted several investigations into prostitution activities, illegal gambling operations, and liquor ordinance compliance checks within the City of Decatur, Illinois.
Lastly, the Detectives assigned to the Street Crimes Narcotics Bureau conducted numerous hours of surveillance on pattern crimes and annually make hundreds of criminal arrests resulting in several hundred felony charges and a hundred misdemeanor charges.
