Walking School Bus
A fun way of combining health and safety on your way to and from school
What is a walking school bus?
A walking school bus (bus) is a group of children walking to and from school with one or more adults. This bus operates just like a regular school bus with set routes and times of the day, with one of two adult volunteers acting as drivers or conductors.
The safe routes to school program steering committee (The committee) currently targets to improve the safety situation around William-Harris Elementary School (The school) in Decatur, IL. The committee would like to start the bus along four routes that run within a mile and half around the school (click here for the map).
Subject to the availability of volunteers, the committee would like to inaugurate these buses on October 8th, 2008 with the International Walk to School Day event. If you would like to be part of this event please fill out the call for volunteer form.
